So how has everyone’s weekends been? Ours seems to have flown by and we’ve barely stopped at all.
Friday night we did our first proper food shopping trip in what seems like weeks. Since we started moving stuff over we’ve really just been living off of stuff from the freezer to use it up, and the odd quick meals here and there. I feel like I haven’t had any veg in what seems like ages! And I’m not one to usually complain about that, but I’ve really wanted some recently! You may think I’m a weirdo, but I love going to supermarkets I’ve never been to before, especially if they’re big. We’ve always really been Tesco people, occasionally shopping at Morrison’s or Sainsbury’s for the odd few things. But now we’re in High Wycombe our closest supermarket is Asda. And I loved it on Friday night! Just wandering round, looking at all the bargains etc. Seeing what different things they had compared to our usual shops. It’s sad, I know, but I loved it! Plus the fact that we’ve now got a chest freezer as well as a normal drawer freezer means that I could stock up on loads of things so I can cook big batches of meals, and not worry about whether they would fit in the freezer or not! When we finally got home we then had to do a mad tidy as there were still boxes everywhere, and Chris’ mum was staying over on Saturday, so we needed to clear some room so we could all sit down, and also pull out the sofa bed for her to sleep on!
Saturday was another early morning as we had the plumber coming round to hopefully sort the heating out (big fail there, see you again on Tuesday Mr. Plumber!). So once he’d gone Chris went out for a long run with one of our friends in the village, while I cooked two batches of one of my favourite meals so I could freeze them, and tidied and cleaned some more – it seems never ending!! When Chris got home from his run, we quickly made ourselves presentable and then went for lunch in the village cafe with Rich and Ana, which was lovely. No sooner as we got back to the house we had to go out again to pick Chris’ mum up from the airport as she’s been on holiday, making a quick detour via B&Q (our second home at the moment!) I spent the evening just chatting away with Jan, while Chris cooked us dinner (I guess I’ve got a good ‘un haven’t I?) and then chatted some more. It was really nice catching up, as we haven’t seen her since just before Christmas, and even then it was at a big family do.
Another early morning on Sunday, as we had to take Jan to the station for 9:30. You know you’re an old married couple when you’re sat in the car on a Sunday morning waiting for supermarkets to open! We did a quick shop, and then headed over to Home Base (our third home!) and bought some paint samples for out bathroom, and a shower screen. Oh the excitement! *insert sarcasm here* We quickly rushed home, as Mum and Dad were on their way to help with some more decorating. We’d barely been in the house 5 minutes when they arrived!
My parents are a God send when it’s come to decorating this house. Just on Sunday we have:
- Finished lining the walls in the second bedroom (thanks Jan for helping me strip off the last of the woodchip)
- Finished the first coat of paint in the second bedroom, and started a second coat
- Put up a shower screen on our bath
- Painted the door of the second bedroom
- Painted the ceiling of the second bedroom
- Put up curtain poles for the second bedroom
- Put up loads of pictures and a mahoosive mirror in the living room
- Put up some battoning so that we can get a curtain for the utility room (damn, you get a right draft from there sometimes, right the way up the stairs!)
All this, as well as watching England beat Wales in the rugby! I fell absolutely exhausted now, and just want to curl up on the sofa and watch one of my favourite programmes online, but turns out our internet is uber slow here and it’s taking forever! Oh well, has meant I’ve had time to write a post while I’m waiting for it to load.
Hopefully soon, once I have a spare 5 minutes I’ll get round to giving you a lovely update about our home, with pictures and everything. Obviously the house is still going to be a work in progress for a while, but it’s starting to feel like home now 🙂
