Salted Caramel Addiction
So it turns out I’ve got a salted caramel addiction!
When shopping in Reading on Friday my darling husband confessed that he had yet to buy me an Easter egg of any size, shape or form! For once I’d been organised and bought his well over a week ago. He kept talking about disappearing off on his own so he could buy one…but never quite got round to it!
As it was gone 5:30pm and still no egg, I helpfully suggested we went to Hotel Chocolat and then I could choose what I wanted. I usually resent Easter eggs, they’re so expensive for what they are and often has hardly any chocolate in them anyway!
As we walked into Hotel Chocolat they had eggs on display…but I don’t think Chris would buy me one at £28 each….no matter how bad he may feel about not getting me one yet (I don’t think he really felt bad at all, but I’ll tell myself he did). These are the eggs I would’ve L.O.V.E.D, but even at half price I don’t think I could ever justify buying them, not unless both Chris and I had serious pay rises, or won the lottery (Rocky Road to Caramel or The Classic Ostrich Egg). So I dragged myself away from them, and moved over to the smaller and more affordable section of the shop. I picked out three different selections, and surprisingly they all had caramel and salt in their names. So here’s what I got:
These weren’t as amazing as I thought they might be, I had kind of hoped that the praline would be a bit…I don’t know, softer or incorporated into the chocolate some how. I still managed to finish them off though without sharing!
I’m a H.U.G.E. fan of chocolate covered peanuts, so thought I would give these chocolate covered Caramelised Salted Almonds a whirl. They were definitely the most salty of all three of the selectors I chose. Though at times I wasn’t entirely sure where the caramel came into it. But again, I happily demolished these
I absolutely LOVE soft caramel, I could happily eat it all day, but for it to be salted caramel as well, just tops it off! Divine!
I was very impressed with myself that I managed to make all of these last so long…. I think I was still going on them on Wednesday evening, whereas Chris had finished off his Lindt egg on Monday night! Usually Chris manages to keep his chocolate until what feels like June, and mine is usually all gone by lunch time on Easter Sunday! So this was a huge achievement for me!
By the time Thursday evening came though I was in need of some more salted caramel-ness…so after going out for dinner in Hurley we stopped by Waitrose in Marlow and I bought myself some Salted Caramel and Chocolate Profiteroles! They were soooo good! Again, I think the salted part of the caramel could’ve done with being a bit more pronounced, but maybe that’s just my personal taste.
Right now I finally feel like I’ve had a bit too much chocolate for a while – at least for the next couple of days, so I’m back on to a new bag of Cheese Savouries again! The last pack lasted me a whopping 3 evenings, I reckon this one will be gone by tomorrow afternoon (having only bought them a couple of hours ago!) Are you guys still eating chocolate? Are you sick of the sight of it? Or could you quite happily just keep munching along on it til it comes out of your ears!?
