Not enough hours in the day

So I’m guessing most of you feel the same as me – there’s simply not enough hours in the day to do everything you need to.

I leave the house just gone 7am weekday mornings so that we can avoid the traffic and hubby can get to work on time. I can’t remember whether I’ve said before, but he starts work at 8am, whereas I don’t start work til 9am, so this means he chucks me out of the car on the way to his work, and then I sit around at work with a cup of tea and my kindle until 9 o’clock when I start work. So Chris finishes work earlier than me then I hear you ask? Haha, funny! He’s technically meant to finish work at 4:15 in line with European times (as he does European accounts), but not. He uses the excuse that I finish work at 5 as his excuse to stay later and pick me up when I finish so he doesn’t have to sit around. Turns out more often than not I’m the one sat around waiting for him to finish. He also continues to work once we get home as it’s “expected of him”. I just have to keep telling myself it will all be worth it in the end….whenever the end is!

So if we’re lucky with traffic after work then we’re home by about 6ish. Not too bad I know, but as we leave so early I tend to start heading to bed just gone 10pm. I know I’m so rock and roll these days! When we lived at the flat it wasn’t unheard of for me to go to bed at 1am, but I would never dream of doing that these days. I don’t think I could physically stay awake that late anymore! I feel so old! Anyway, I digress. The early mornings and equally early nights mean I tend to have about 4 hours to do everything that needs doing. Dinner varies in timing depending on how lazy we’re both feeling. Anywhere between 10 minutes and over an hour to cook. Then of course there is sitting down and eating it while watching a 30 minute programme we recorded from several months ago and not yet had time to watch yet. We water all our lovely plants. Do a quick clean of the kitchen and unstacking/stacking the dishwasher, maybe some washing if we’re lucky. If Chris isn’t working all night we try to watch an episode of Breaking Bad (just started season 4), and if he is working all evening then recently I’ve been watching a boxset one of my colleagues has lent me.

Don’t even get me started if we need to do any shopping, it often causes arguments as neither of us really want to do it, but I’m a big dawdler when we’re traipsing around Asda. I love looking at all the home bits and seeing what bargains I can find. It’s rare I end up buying them though as hubby likes to just get in and out as quick as he can…unless there’s a reduced aisle anywhere. He’s a big sucker for reductions! *cough* skinflint *cough*

So what’s my point to my little moan about not having enough hours in the day? Well there’s loads of things that I would love to get done, but just don’t. There’s still a load of doors that need painting upstairs that I’ve only half done. There’s hoovering that needs doing that hasn’t been done in aaaaaaaaaaaages. There’s still loads of ironing that needs doing (before my random day off last week I hadn’t done any ironing since we moved into the house!) And there are loads of blog posts running around my head that I would love to get typed up, but I just never get round to it. I find that I need to properly concentrate when writing a good blog post, so no TV on, some music on, no husband talking to me, or knowing that there is something else I really should be doing instead, like if we have friends coming to stay at the weekend and the house desperately needs tidying.

I think even if I had just an extra 2 hours in the day I would be able to blog more, would be able to catch up on the several months worth of TV I’ve got recorded. Get all the bits done that I need to, and not to feel constantly exhausted!

I’m hoping that I’ll be able to sit down and get some blogs done soon – Chris’ brother is coming to stay in a couple of weekends time, so I’m guessing they’re spend most the weekend playing PS2 (yes we’re old skool), golf and football, so I can maybe get a couple of posts knocked out. I’ve got a few ideas for ones I want to do soon, including one about the last leg of our honeymoon (I only realised the other day that I haven’t written it yet), one about the Drunken 5,6,7 (post will explain all), how we’re getting on with the house, holiday planning, and I’m sure there were a couple of others, but it’s getting near 10pm which means it’s nearly my bedtime and there’s still a long list of things I need to do before then!

How do you guys all manage to fit everything in? Does anyone have access to Bernard’s Watch I could borrow (does anyone remember that programme!?!)

    Bernard’s Watch was amazing!

There are definitely not enough hours in the day. We wake between 7 and 8 so our mornings aren’t too bad – James gives the girls breakfast while I sort their clothes for the day and get my biggest luxury – coffee in bed. Then I’m busy with the kids all day with them going to bed and settled by 8. Then I start work, do some housework, blog, etc. It’s very unusual for me to be in bed before midnight and more likely it’s around 2am, sometimes later if I have a job on.

    More sleep please!

I guess I could fit more in if I didn’t watch TV, but I need some down time to just relax! Work is not the easiest of jobs with the people we have to deal with so you need to be able to switch off for a while at home. There’s no easy solution!
