My favourite films
So I thought I’d do a bit of a little getting to know me kind of post. For those readers who don’t know me personally, or who just want to know a little bit more. So here are a few of my favourite films, in no particular order
I think it’s just a funny film, with the added benefit of Ben Affleck! It has a fantastic cast; Matt Damon, Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, and Alanis Morissette who plays God! It’s basically about a woman who has to save humanity from destruction by a couple of renegade angels who are trying to exploit a loop-hole to get back in to heaven. It has so many fabulous quotes it in, but I quite liked this one (particularly as it is mentions a certain film that is pretty big this time of year)
Serendipity (a muse): I’m responsible for nineteen of the twenty top-grossing films of all time.
Serendipity: Yeah, the one about the kid, by himself in his house, burglars trying to get in and he fights them off? I had nothing to do with that one. Somebody sold their soul to Satan to get the grosses up on that piece of shit.
Yup, another film with Jay and Silent Bob – I love them! As with Dogma, it stars Ben Affleck and Jason Lee, but also stars Joey Lauren Adams. As IMDB describe it…
Holden and Banky are comic book artists. Everything’s going good for them until they meet Alyssa, also a comic book artist. Holden falls for her, but his hopes are crushed when he finds out she’s gay.
There are plenty of great quotes in this film…but none that are suitable for this blog! Watch it and you’ll see why!
10 Things I Hate About You
A modern adaption of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. It stars Heath Ledger (still can’t believe he’s gone, it’s been eight years. I really need to accept this!), Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Julia Stiles, and has one of my favourite films quotes of all time:
Katerina: You can’t just buy me a guitar every time you screw up, you know?
Patrick: Yeah, I know. But then, you know, there’s always drums, and bass, and maybe even one day a tambourine.
City of Angels
An angel (Nick Cage) falls for a human (Meg Ryan), and decides to “fall” and give up existence as he knows it to be with a woman he has fallen in love with. Sounds cheesy, but its a beautiful film, with an amazing soundtrack. It’s also one of my Dad’s favourite films, so I like that too, that it’s one of both of our favourite films.
Seth: [about Susan] She said, what good would wings be if you couldn’t feel the wind on your face?
Romeo + Juliet (Baz Luhrmann version, obviously!)
Again, an absolutely fabulous soundtrack. Leonardo DiCaprio and Clare Danes re-enact the Shakespeare favourite, while still using the original dialogue. Which usually if you told me a film used the original dialogue from Shakespeare, I would turn my nose up at it as it makes it so much more difficult to understand. But good old Baz has made it fit so well into modern life that it is really easy to understand what is going on and what people are saying.
Bit of random trivia for you? Neil Patrick Harris was considered for the role of Romeo. Could you imagine what different film that may have been!?
Favourite quote? I dunno, that’s quite a difficult one I think. I guess I quite like this one…
Romeo: Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, too rude, too boisterous, and it pricks like thorn.
Mercutio: If love be rough with you, be rough with love. Prick love for pricking and you beat love down.
Haha, looking at this list of my favourite films, I think I’m definitely a child of the 90’s!! So what are your favourite films?
