Isla Jean in 2018
Isla Jean in 2018
I love looking back on photos. I remember when we were little we used to ask for a slide show every now and again. Dad would put the projector up, and we’d all sit together and look at photos of past holidays and weekends with friends, reminiscing. It was great.
People don’t tend to do that sort of thing these days. We just take photos on our phones, and generally forget about them. It’s rare we (or at least I) even print them out anymore. Although that is on my list of things to do…print out photos for Isla’s photo album that my brother bought us when Isla was first born!!!
Last year I did a post containing a round-up of all the Living Arrows photos I used in the year….this year however, Living Arrows kind of fell by the wayside when I became pregnant and lost all energy to do anything for the first trimester!!
So for 2018, I decided to have a look through all the photos I have taken, and choose my favourite from each month. So here we go, Isla Jean in 2018!
This, for quite a while, became Isla’s standard pose when I asked to take a photo of her. It made me laugh every time! She just looks super cute, and very grown up all of a sudden. (Excuse the total carnage in the background!)
Celebrating Chinese New Year with some of our favourite people. They lived out in Hong Kong for quite a while, and their children were born there. The outfit Isla is wearing was actually worn by one of their boys (who is now 16) when he was about Isla’s age. It still drowned her, as she’s such a mite, but she looks gorgeous in it I think!
We had yet more snow! It seemed as though there was snow, or remains of, pretty much all of last Winter! The first time, or two, Isla wasn’t too bothered by the snow. But come the snow in March she was so excited for it, and wanted to go out and explore it. In this photo we’d just come downstairs in the morning and opened the curtains. Her face lit up and she was shouting “Sheep! Sheep! Sheep!” because Grandpa had told her that the snow was sheep lying down in our garden!!! I just love how happy she looks. I’m such a big kid when it comes to snow, so I love that Isla now loves it too.
This little girl’s sense of direction is amazing. If we’re in the car driving to nursery she will tell me which way to turn at junctions to get there! From a young age she had also known how to get to our local park from our house too! In this photo she’d decided it was a tutu day, and when we decided to go out for a walk she ran straight to the park, laughing all the way.
Isla’s 2nd birthday was a fun day of doing lots of little things she loves. Babychino in a cafe, shopping, and of course going to the big park in the next town. She suddenly looks so much taller. Isla is never happier than when she’s on a swing.
Isla’s first Mr Whippy ice cream. I was quite surprised though, as although she said she wanted a flake in it, she pulled it out and ff have it to me to eat! Isla was very excited about having “a big girl ice cream” and ate every last bit of it… then asked for another!
I like to think I’m pretty relaxed when it comes to Isla doing crafts, and Chris is starting to get there too. I was in stitches the day this photo was taken. Isla started to paint her tummy, she kept looking up at us to see if it was OK, and I just encouraged her. She was absolutely covered! She also started to paint Daddy too, which was fantastic!
This photo just melted my heart when I took it! I am a huge advocate of breastfeeding – Isla is still feeding at just over 2.5 years old. We were at a family weekend at my mother-in-law’s, and I was getting Isla dressed. She just picked up this cuddly toy dog, pulled up her top, and started ‘breastfeeding’ it!
How freaking cute!? Towards the end of September we spent a week down in St. Ives, as we tend to most years. Isla was taking an interest in everything and it was wonderful to watch. She took a particular liking to the binoculars that are kept by the balcony, and kept putting them round her neck and looking out onto the beach and sea with them. There’s very little chance she could see anything interesting with them I think, as I found it quite hard to focus them, and they weren’t very powerful/zoomy/magnifyingy (I don’t know what the word is!)
Isla suddenly looks so grown up! She loves spending time down at the allotment, but we’ve not managed to spend much time down there in the second half of 2018. The weather was too hot over the summer, and then we were visiting my Grandma, or house hunting. And as we decided we’re moving house we kind of lost the motivation to go down the allotment, we didn’t see the point. But, we popped down to pick a few pumpkins to carve and making into curry. Isla was so excited and wanted to carry the pumpkin…she fell over once we took the pumpkin from her cos it was so heavy! Look at that smile though!
Just casually standing there, watching TV with her hands in her pockets (she loooooves pockets!) and a phone charged wrapped around her waist as a belt! I mean really, this girl’s imagination is crazy, she comes up with the most bizarre things, and I love it. The phone charger belt just really made me giggle, and shows off her personality perfectly.
Everyone seems to comment on how much of a happy child Isla is. And on the whole, she really is…unless she’s really tired, or being told off for being naughty! She has the most amazing laugh, giggles so much, and often gets hiccups because she laughs so much. I love that this photo just shows off what a happy little girl she is. (And what is with this hand brushing her hair out of her eyes here, she looks like such a diva!)
So there you go, my favourite photos of Isla Jean in 2018. One from each month. She has changed so much over the last 12 months, and I am so excited to see how she changes over the next year. It is looking to be a big year for our family, with a new baby coming in April, as well as hopefully a house move and new job for the hubster.
