Isla Jean at 9 months
It really does only seem like yesterday that I was writing Isla Jean’s 8 month update. And now I’m writing about Isla Jean at 9 months old. Can time just stand still please?
Every month she is developing and changing so much, and it is wonderful to watch. But…my baby is growing up. Soon she won’t be a baby anymore!
So here are a few things that she’s been doing this last month
Rather than all her words being a variation of bababa, brabrabra, or abba! She has now brought ‘g’ into her vocaulary…not any words starting with g, just the letter, pronounced guh! I keep trying to persuade her to say mama or dada…but she just laughs at me!! In the last week as well she has started blowing more raspberries, by blowing out, and also by breathing in. I’m seeing as her using her mouth in a different way, and seeing what noises she can make. And so it will eventually develop into new letters and words sounds. She is so much more vocal now. She will regularly babble and squeal when having a ‘conversation’ with us, or if she is happy about something (usually the weather coming on the TV – yes, she’s a strange girl!)
Isla is becoming more and more confident with the food she is eat. Picking up bigger pieces of food…and putting larger amounts of food in her mouth. The latter doesn’t always end well! Yoghurt has definitely taken over broccoli and chilli as being the favourite food. She gets so excited when she see’s me opening a pot of yoghurt for her that she squeals in delight until she is given some. Her other favourite food is Ella’s Kitchen Melty Hoops, but as I mentioned in this weeks Living Arrows post, High Wycombe is in the middle of The Great Melty Hoop shortage of 2017….which Ella’s Kitchen have promised me will be over soon…with new packaging!
My gorgeous girly is well and truly crawling now…well, maybe not completely crawling as in on all fours, but she kicks herself forward and her tummy is very much off the floor. Whereas before she was just commando crawling. Isla has also learnt to pull herself up to standing in the last week or so. She always looks so proud of herself when she has done it, bless her. She is also able to skirt herself around things too. For example, if she is playing on her activity table, and wants to play with the bits on the other side, she will walk herself around it so that she can reach those other bits.
Isla is definitely getting more and more mischievous! She loves to play in her walker in the kitchen while I’m pottering about in there, and she can really move in that thing. She has mastered turning around in it, and whizzes from one end of the kitchen to the other at lightening speed! She has also learnt that if we leave the doors open then she can get into the living room, which we have always stopped her from doing when in the walker as there isn’t enough room really. So when she realises the doors are open, she will pause just before she leaves the kitchen, and look round at me until I look at her, flash me a massive grin, and then run off into the living room! What a cheeky monkey!
We now have three teeth very much through on the bottom, as well as one the has poked through but isn’t too prominent. She has had one on the top that has been making an appearance for quite a while. But it really doesn’t want to do much. It has broken through, but isn’t doing much else. It is still pretty sharp though, as are her other four! She won’t let me have a look to see if there are any others coming through or not, but she doesn’t seem as bothered by her teeth at the moment.
Isla being a creature of habit is still following just below the 50th centile. She is now 8.14kg (17lb 14oz in real money!)
Sleeping is improving for the most part. The last few nights she has only woken up a couple of times during the night, but having said that I’ve probably just jinxed things! (I totally have, she has woken up twice in the 10 minutes since I wrote that!!!) Over the weekend she was a nightmare to get to sleep. I think that is because we were away somewhere she had never been before, and there was a lot going on so she was probably a bit over-stimulated. She hasn’t been the easiest to get to sleep for her naps this week either, but then when she has fallen asleep for her first nap of the day it has been for 2.5 hours! I do wonder whether she is coming down with something…
We had a bit of a scare a couple of weeks ago as she developed a rash on her back and chest, which then spread to her legs, arms, and face. After phoning the non-emergency help line, they booked us an appointment at the hospital for 20 minutes later! Thankfully the doctor just said it was a virus, but to keep an eye on it. Thankfully it disappeared a few days later, and the whole time she was quite happy in herself. This week she seems to have a little bit of a rash again, and as I said has been sleeping a lot more. She’s been sniffling a bit to, and a little grouchy at times, so maybe she is coming down with something again.
So this is Isla Jean at 9 months. Lets see what the next month brings!
