Isla Jean at 8 months old
It’s a few days late but I really wanted to post an update on Isla.
I can’t believe my baby girl is 8 months old already. Chris and I were talking in bed the other night and we were saying it seems crazy that she has now been born for longer than we knew I was pregnant! Life seems is so completely different now she is with us, and I can’t even begin to think what it would be without her. She is my world and my life is so much better with her in it.
Isla’s has changed so much over the last month. It really is crazy how much she has changed
Isla’s first tooth broke through on 2nd December, and now she has another one through, and two more trying to make an appearance! Of wow, are they sharp! With the first couple of teeth she was fine, and you couldn’t really tell she was teething. However, with these two new ones she has been a right Moaning Minnie! She’s not normal though, our Isla. Typically, babies first teeth are the bottom two front ones, followed by the top two front ones. Not Isla. Her first teeth are the ones either side of these!!
Isla has become so much more vocal just in the last week or two. She babbles away constantly and has just developed a wonderful high pitched squeal when she is happy (usually when she is standing up!) She said ‘Mama’ a few weeks ago, but I think it was purely coincidence, as she’s not done it since. Her favourite words are; Baba, Abba, Bubba, Bububububub. She also loves blowing raspberries!
We are still doing a mix of spoon fed and baby led weaning. It seems to be working well for us and Isla is trying so many new foods. We haven’t yet found anything she doesn’t like (including when she has a couple of links of my liquorice and a small bite of my pickled onion monster munch! Please don’t judge, it’s the only way I get to eat when she’s sound without her having a complete melt down!) Over Christmas she ate Christmas Dinner, including sprouts, as well as rabbit and pheasant pie! This girl has got good/expensive taste! We’re still breastfeeding as well, and it’s going great. We are both loving it. At bedtime Isla is still having a bottle, and I think both Chris and I are enjoying this. Chris so that he gets that bonding tie with her, and me so that I can get some bits done around the house.
Isla is such a happy little girl, and it’s something that so many people comment on. She really only cries when she’s tired, bedtime is usually a particularly unhappy time! She is developing such a funny little personality. She will clamp get mouth shut if she doesn’t want to eat anymore, but will then happily eat more if I put it on normal cutlery! She has also discovered it is fun to shake her head. I don’t think she realises really that to us it means No, but she does it with such comic timing.
“Is Daddy funny?” *Shakes head*
*While standing up* “Are you standing? *Shakes head*
“Do you want some of Mummy’s dinner then, if you’re not going to eat yours?” *Shakes head while opening her mouth to eat Mummy’s food!*
Just had Isla weighed, and she is now 7.901kg, which in old money is 17.4lbs. She is following the same centile line perfectly, just below 50%. I was convinced she would have put on more than this with the amoount of food she ate over Christmas!
Isla is such a wriggle bottom! She doesn’t like to sit still really, or lie still, which makes for very interesting nappy changes, as she likes to roll over midway through! Having spent a long time making no effort to crawl for a long time, she has started to show a little bit of interest…mostly if her dummy is slightly out of reach! Isla’s favourite thing at the moment is to grab anyone’s hands and pull herself up to standing. And she rarely stands still. She will try to walk, or dance, or climb. She does not stop!
Sleeping I think on the whole is improving. We’ve mosty got it down to 1-2 wake ups during the night. These are very easily sorted with a quick feed in Mummy and Daddy’s bed, where she promptly falls asleep, and is then carried back into her own room. The last couple of nights have been a bit more difficult…usually in getting her to sleep though, and I think that is mostly due to her teething. Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to tackle this?
So that is where our gorgeous Isla Jean is up to at 8 months old. I can’t get over how much she has changed, and she really is changing by the day. I can’t wait to see what the next month brings.
