How We Do Christmas

I was tagged in the How We Do Christmas Tag by Amy over at Amy& Tots, Siobhan at The Baby Boat Diaries and Zoe at Mama Geek

This will be a particularly special Christmas as it will be Isla’s first and also our first as a family. She obviously doesn’t understand it at all yet but I’m still excited for it!

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
Ooh, I’ve had to think hard about this one as I’m not really a big fan of Christmas movie (please don’t hate me) but I think I’d have to go with Miracle on 34th Street. There’s something quite…innocent about it. Or, possibly go old skool with It’s A Wonderful life.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Yeah, we definitely had one or two as kids, I’m sure

Where do you usually spend your holiday?
We usually alternate each year where we go. One year we spend Christmas at my parent’,s the next year at Chris’s mum’s. This year it’s Chris’s mum’s and then up to my parents on 28th for a few days. In a couple of years time I think we’re going to start to have every 3rd year at home, so we can start our own family traditions when Isla knows what Christmas is about

What is your favourite Christmas song?
Isn’t everyone’s The Pogues – Fairytale of New York???

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Not at Mum and Ddad’s. But at Chris’s Mum’s we open a “tree” present, which is just one that is really small

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Erm… Dasher and Dancer, and Prancer and Vixen, Cupid and Comit, and Donner and Blitzen. Not forgetting Rudolph of course! Like Zoe, I had to do it the the tune of the Night Before Christmas so I could remember. Which reminds me, I really must get that book out, so that I can pack it to take away with us.

Which holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
I’m looking forward to reading Isla the Night Before Christmas, as I’ve always read it on Christmas Eve. I enjoy going to Midnight Mass as well, there’s something so peaceful about it. But I’m not sure how we’ll work that one this year with Isla. Maybe I’ll do Midnight Mass and Chris can go on Christmas morning….or vice versa…we’ll see.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Fake. As we’re not usually around much St Christmas it’s silly to get s real one, plus out house is a bit small. I’m hoping one day we’ll have a house big enough to fit a real one….

What is your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?
It might just be my Mum’s ham…. She puts star anise and marmalade all over it and it is amazing!

Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?
I think I’d probably cry if no one got me a present to be honest! But I do love it when I come up with really good ideas as to what to get people and seeing their faces when they open them up.

What is the best Christmas present you ever received?
It’s between two….. My parents bought me a drum kit one year which was awesome. I literally cried with happiness! But then Chris bought me a weekend in Venice one year which coincided with my 21st birthday, that was pretty special

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
New York. I’d love to go back there again anyway after going for our honeymoon, but it would be magical to see it at Christmas

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I used to be quite good but I’m not sure what’s happened. I’m pretty rubbish now. If anyone comments this year, I’ll just say that Isla did it!
Most memorable Christmas moment?
Erm….I don’t know really. Getting my drum kit really sticks in my mind…..I really regret selling it…. And also not having the confidence to play it in front of people

What made you realise the truth about Santa?
I really don’t remember that far back. I think probably one of my brothers told me!

What makes the holidays special for you?
Family. Christmas isn’t Christmas without spending it with family. When I worked at the hospital I alwyas asked for Christmas off and would work New Year’s Eve and New Year’s day as I can’t think of anything more depressing than having to either work or spend Christmas day on your own

Hope you enjoyed reading about how we do Christmas. This was meant to have been psoted last night. But my gorgeous girly refused to go to sleep until nearly midnight, and then I had to finish off my Christmas shopping this morning!

I’m going to tag the following bloggers to take part:
