18 for 2018 – update

As we are now half way through the year, I thought it was about time I did an update of how I’m getting on with my goals for 2018. I’ve been concentrating a lot on trying to complete as many of my #101in1001 that I haven’t really paid much attention to these goals, so it will be interesting to see as to how I’m getting on with them.

Increase my follower numbers

As I mentioned in my original post for my 18 in 2018, I had some figures in mind that I wanted to reach in terms of my follower numbers for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. You can easily find my current follower numbers on my channels if you wanted to see them. I’d say that I’m definitely on track to reach my target for the end of the year.

Be more organised with blogging

I think I am definitely more organised. I have been running my Come Dine With… blog series, which means that I tend to have posts scheduled several months in advance. I am also writing up about each goal that I achieve for my #101in1001, which is actually one of my goals, so that means that I can often schedule some of those in advance too. I’m still linking up with Living Arrows, so that means I have that post every week. I definitely think I’ve achieved this one! Lets hope I continue with it for the next 6 months (and further!)

Increase my DA to 30

I was gutted in February when my DA dropped down to 24. I had worked so hard to get it up to 27, and was so hopeful that I would reach 30 by the end of the year. It seems as though a lot of other bloggers dropped a lot in that update too, so at least it wasn’t just me. I’ve managed to get back up to 27 again now though, but I have been stuck there for a while. I am making a conscious effort to do various bits and pieces that are meant to help increase your DA, so we will see whether they actually work or not.

Be more active, and interactive, on Life As Mrs D’s social media

Nah, I’m still a bit pants at this! I completed my 100 happy days, which I was posting to my instagram, but then I kinda dropped off a fair bit after that. I do try to post as often as I can/remember. I really do need to make more of an effort though!

One week comment on every single blog post that links up with Living Arrows

When I decided to write this update, that is the week that I’d also decided to complete this one. It has been in my head for a while now to attempt it, and actually it’s not that difficult. It just takes one evening to read through all the fantastic posts that link up with Living Arrows, so I’ve now done this.

Double the traffic for Life As Mrs D

I’m not sure whether I’ll managed to double it, but I don’t think I’ll be too far off doubling my traffic from 2017. I think I have been posting a lot more, and a lot more regularly this year, which definitely helps. I think I need to be a bit more proactive in promoting my posts though, as I tend to find that definitely helps

Find some new blogger friends

I met some fantastic bloggers when at BlogOnX in May, and I’m hoping that I’ll be able to go to BlogOnToys in September and meet up with them again. As well as meeting some new blogger friends. It really is a fantastic conference to go to, so relaxed, and everyone is so friendly.

Have one weekend free at home each month

This year I have been trying to make a conscious effort to block out one weekend a month in our calendar so that we spend it at home. Even if we do have one thing planned at or around home during that weekend, that is fine, but just as long as we are at home, with no visitors to entertain, and can mostly do whatever we want/need to do. I do think blocking weekends out in our calendar is the only way to achieve this, as otherwise we’d end up doing something else, and we’d just get so exhausted, and the allotment would get too overgrown!

Complete up to 35%  on my 101 in 1001

I’m hoping that I can achieved this one. I have already completed 23% of my #101in1001, so I just have to complete another 12 in the next 6 months. I think I should be able to do that having just had a glance over my list. I am nearly a quarter of the way through my time for completing my 101in1001, so I think I’m doing well that I have nearly completed a quarter of them.

Put £200 into savings from matched betting

I have nearly achieved this, although I haven’t done any matched betting in quite a while. I seemed to just get out of the habit of it, which is silly, as I could make a fair bit of money from it. Maybe I need to start up again soon. But so far I have added £167.77 into our savings account from the matched betting I did.

Although I have stopped the matched betting temporarily, I have started doing some paid work on here, which is bringing in some money. At the moment it isn’t going into our savings account. I have said that I will pay for Chris to go to Oberammergau in 2020, so I have paid the deposit for that so far, and the rest of the money is just sat in my ‘blog’ bank account for the moment. I am sure by the end of the year though I will have made it up to £200 at least that I have added into our savings account.

Have more family days out

We have failed miserable at this. We, or at least I, have used out National Trust membership a fair bit. But we haven’t really had many family days out. On the rare weekends that we are at home, we just end up going to the allotment, or doing bits in the garden or at home. We have had some lovely weekends with family and friends though.

Read at least 5 books

I honestly don’t know if I’ll achieve this one. I started reading a book while we were on holiday in France in May, but am yet to finish it! I really need to try to read more, but I just never find the time. By the time I go to bed at night/very early morning I am either too tired to read, or Chris would not be too impressed if I turned the light on and started reading! I have definitely read more than 5 kids books though, as we are now regularly getting books out of the library for Isla.

Do something special for our 5 year wedding anniversary

Haha, you can tell that I still have a bit of baby brain. In my original post I’d said that on our last anniversary Isla was only 2 weeks old…well she wasn’t she was 1 year and 2 weeks old! I am totally claiming baby brain for as long as possible. I have it on good authority that it can last at least 30 years!

Anyway, this one is a big fail! We didn’t do anything for our anniversary, in fact, Chris didn’t even get a present, just a card. I’m not a big fan of buying big presents for anniversaries and Valentines Day etc. I see it as a bit of a waste, but it would have been nice to do something special to mark 5 years.

My Mum and Dad were over, and we did share a bottle of fizz, but as we were going to France very early the next morning we didn’t manage to do anything to celebrate really.

Meal plan for a whole month (and stick to it!)

We haven’t managed a whole month, that I know of. We started out quite well at the start of the year. My Secret Santa from one of the blog groups I’m in has a weekly planner and shopping list thing as part of it, so we’ve been using that. Although we did get out of the habit of using it for quite a long time. I think I need to sit down and say “right, this month we are going to meal plan for the whole of it” and write up everything that we have got planned for that month, and meal plan around it.

Once a month have an afternoon just for me

This is another big fail. I did quite well at the start of the year, I went to the cinema, I had baths, I sat and watched TV if I fancied it. But more recently cleaning, or blogging, or errands have slipped in the my Isla-free afternoons. I really want to go to the cinema more though, so maybe I need to start blocking out an afternoon a month for myself in my calendar and see how that works.

Write more letters and thank you cards

This year I signed up for a pen pal scheme. I started out the year with quite a few people to write to, but they always tail off. I’m not much better myself though, I got sent a letter from one of them a while ago, and I still haven’t got around to writing back. I really must. I’ve sent a few birthday cards this year that I wouldn’t usually, and have sent the odd thank you card. Chris and I still need to sit down and write thank you cards for all of Isla’s birthday presents. We are so bad!

Be more creative and crafty

Well I still haven’t started making the quilt I said I was going to, but I have recently finished making Isla a sleepbag (post is going live in a couple of weeks, so keep an eye out for that) which on the whole went OK….as long as you don’t look at a couple of bits too closely! Isla and I have been doing lots of painting, and drawing and sticking together if that counts!? She absolutely loves it. Chris gets really stressed doing things like that with Isla as it gets very messy, but I’ve just learnt to go with it.

Do 5 random acts of kindness

I did one RAOK at the beginning of the year when I was out shopping, but haven’t got around to doing anything else yet. I did see a wonderful idea on an Instagram story the other day that I think is so nice to do, so I might do that….although if I’m planning on doing it, is it technically a random act of kindness??? A lot of RAOK that I can think of tend to involve money of some sort, so if you have any ideas of any that are free…do let me know!!

So there is my update of my 18 for 2018. I think I’m doing fairly well so far. As I said, there are a few that I have definitely failed, and there is nothing more I can do about them, but the others I think I am on track to complete.

How are you getting on with any goals you have made for 2018?
